Personalization

For the purpose of this assignment I am going to use a woodshop as my example. In woodshops from my experience each student has a guide that they follow. I remember in my middle school each grade had an assigned project they made, but they got to choose what wood to use, and could add additional styling to their projects. In terms of personalization this dynamic fits a data driven learning. What I mean by this is that for every student, depending on their skill level, and how fast they were completing their project would determine what they were allowed to do, what machines they could use, and what additional things they could add to their project. For example a student who was struggling with sanding properly would not add another strip of a different wood to their project, as that required the use of additional machines they could not yet handle. While this gives students a certain level of autonomy, and individual choice in their projects it is still limited by individual ability. This is more of an individualized environment where the course is adapted to every student’s individual abilities. Those who need more support get it, and those who need less support get more free range.
