I am relatively new to the working world. I recently applied, and got my current job around four months ago. Before that I was employed for around six months at a job where I barely worked, getting maybe eight hours a week if I was lucky. Being new to the working world I learnt a lot about the job market recently, and have gained some insight into how employers look at you as an applicant. When I applied to my current job I also applied to around ten other jobs, each looking for two things, a cover letter, and a resume. This process is normal, with almost every employer asking for them. I went for two interviews. The first the manager asked me pretty basic questions about my job experience, and schedule availability. I thought this was pretty routine. My second interview at my current job asked me way more in depth questions, trying to really get to know me before they hired me. I remember being asked such questions like what is something I have struggled with, my answer was depression. Another question asked what my social skills were like. Again these all seem pretty routine questions during an interview. What I did not think about at the time was if they searched my name on social media what would they find. The answer is not much. I keep my social media presence relatively low acting as more of a visitor than a residence on social media. While I do have one post on Tik Tok, and one post on Instagram that is where my posting stops. I do not post updates about my life, or photos of what I have been doing, like many if not all my friends do. Instead my social media presence consists of my resposts, likes, and viewed media on social media platforms. That is what my employer would have found if they had searched me up on social media.
